Preferential model and argumentation semantics
Although the preferential model semantics is the standard semantics for non-monotonic reasoning systems, it is not used for argumentation frameworks. For argumentation frameworks, instead, argumentation semantics are used. This paper studies the relation between the two types of semantics. Several argumentation semantics are related to additional constraints on the preference relation over stat...
متن کاملOn the Complexity of Non-monotonic Entailment in Syntax-based Approaches
The purpose of this paper is to outline various results regarding the computational complexity of non-monotonic entailment in diierent syntax-based approaches. Starting from a (non necessarily consistent) belief base E and a pre-ordering on E, we rst remind diierent mechanisms for selecting preferred consistent subsets in syntax-based approaches. Then we present diierent entailment principles i...
متن کاملPreference Reasoning for Argumentation: Non-monotonicity and Algorithms
In this paper we are interested in the role of preferences in argumentation theory. To promote a higher impact of preference reasoning in argumentation, we introduce a novel preference-based argumentation theory. Using non-monotonic preference reasoning we derive a Dung-style attack relation from a preference specification together with a defeat relation. In particular, our theory uses efficien...
متن کاملApproximate coherence-based reasoning
It has long been recognized that the concept of inconsistency is a central part of commonsense reasoning. In this issue, a number of authors have explored the idea of reasoning with maximal consistent subsets of an inconsistent stratified knowledge base. This paradigm, often called “coherent-based reasoning", has resulted in some interesting proposals for paraconsistent reasoning, non-monotonic...
متن کاملPossibilistic Logic, Preferential Models, Non-monotonicity and Related Issues
The links between Shoham's preference logic and possibilistic logic, a numerical logic of uncertainty based on Zadeh's possibility measures, are investigated. Starting from a fuzzy set of preferential interpretations of a propositional theory, we prove that the notion of preferential entailment is closely related to a previously introduced notion of conditional possibility. Conditional possibil...
